About me

Ilse, Lake Ihema

“Travel has always been an important part of my life, growing up in a Dutch-Japanese expat family.  I worked for corporate organizations in Europe for twenty years before I moved to Africa.  I call myself a pernickety traveller because I dislike backpacking, mass tourism and experience hysteria.  Instead, I look for short trips to unusual locations, places drenched in culture and history,  or that offer unexpected luxury or a new insight. I am fussy about service and I pay attention to details. When I’m at home, I like to spend time with my husband, my Rwandan dog Nelson and my tropical garden.”

Ilse  works as a  writer, editor and copywriter based in Kigali, Rwanda
